The Wonderful Smallest Things

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people. Psalm 113:7-9 (NIV)

The sun is stretching high into the sky, its light blinding and high already on this summer morning. White particles of dust float around me, reflecting the light as they dance between me and the dark leaves of the magnolias

But looking longer, I realize they are not dust, but the tiniest flying insects, gifting me with morning entertainment.

I open my morning devotional, and there it is; Jesus deals with losers, outcasts, beggars – and reminds them “that dust can have a destiny, and that human frailty can be covered with eternal glory.” Through God’s mercy, paupers become princes and the needy sit on thrones.

It is too easy to not see the dust… the smallest of insects… the almost invisible things that are labeled precious in God’s eyes. We are all temporary, floating in the day’s sunlight, yet God tells us we have a destiny and better yet, that our human frailty can be covered with eternal glory.

Lord, I offer you this day. Take it from me and make it yours. In my hands it will be limited to 24 hours. In yours, it will stretch into eternity.

Direct my thoughts. Meter my time. Speak my words. Prepare the work of my hands. Guide my feet to your destiny. I am yours. Amen.

Question: Some days it is enough to sit and soak up the wonder of God. Enjoy this beautiful song of worship:
